January 2014 Kiwi Crate: Mad Science & $10 Off Code!

Kiwi Crate is a great monthly subscription service of craft projects for kids aged 3-7 years old. We've been receiving these boxes for over a year and love them! Each crate contains at least two projects - They might be crafts, science experiments, or art, but they're always educational and entertaining.

This month’s theme is MAD SCIENCE and the two activities are My Weeble Wobbles and My Science Lab. The boxes also usually include a bonus item and the Kiwi Crate magazine called EXPLORE which has extension ideas, as well as extra activities and games.

The Chemical Engineer in me literally squealed when I saw the little test tubes in this box! I love how Kiwi Crate has everything packaged and ready to go.  Hannah is going to get so excited when she sees this month's activities.
Have Two (or more) Children?  When William gets older, or if we wanted to have a playdate for Hannah, we could buy the 'sibling add-on' feature for $9.95 and get enough supplies for 2 children. That's a great deal!

At the end of this post there’s information on how to receive $10 off your first month, making your first box only $9.95!  Here’s a peek inside our January Kiwi Crate:

JuiceLUSH - Kale Lemonade

After a few "slightly icky" juices, Hannah was starting to get a little weary of the green juices.  Was it going to be 'gingery' or 'spicy' or just too... green?  I was on the hunt for a tasty green juice, and I knew Granny Smith Apples and Lemon were the key.

Watch my video below to see the ingredients, the juicing process, and Hannah's toddler taste test.

Kale Lemonade Juice
Ingredients:
  • 2 Granny Smith Apples
  • 4 Ribs of Celery

  • Wash the celery, kale, and cucumber.

JuiceLUSH - Apple Kiwi Carrot

One of the greatest things about juicing is that it is a quick and easy way to incorporate lots of fresh fruit and vegetables into your diet.  PLUS, since we've been making so much juice, we're buying our produce in bulk, so our counters and refrigerator are full of healthy food, which I think is a great precedent to set for our children.

Hannah really enjoys juicing.  She likes helping me pick our different fruits and veggies to combine, pushing down the plunger, or stirring the juice, but she loves having the honor of the first taste.  I try to include a ToddlerTasteTest in all of my JuiceLUSH vlogs, and I think they're hilarious.

Watch my video below to see the ingredients, the juicing process, and Hannah's toddler taste test.

JuiceLUSH - Fennel Juice

William is now almost 10 months old, and breastfeeding is going really well.  I did have concerns about trying to lose weight while breastfeeding, because I don't want to do anything to reduce my milk supply.

I found a juice recipe that contained fennel and remembered that many of the herbal teas for breastfeeding mothers contains fennel, and wondered if it would increase my supply.  Turns out I have definitely noticed an increase in my supply!
(While breastfeeding, you need to consult a doctor about any weight loss program.)

Watch my video below to see the ingredients, the juicing process, and Hannah's toddler taste test.

Fennel Apple Juice
Ingredients:
  • 2 Green Apples
  • 2 Green Pears
  • 3 Handfuls of Kale
  • 3 Ribs of Celery
  • 1/2 Fennel Bulb
Directions:
  • Chop the apples and pears into chunks.
  • Wash the kale, celery, and fennel
  • Juice all ingredients and enjoy!
  • Makes 2 servings.
I know the layers look a little strange,
but I swear it tastes great!

Merry Christmas! WITL 41

Week 41 - December 23 - 29, 2013

Merry Christmas everyone!  When I started editing this week's footage I had over an hour of video to pare down to under 20 minutes - because let's face it, 20 minutes is still MORE than enough.  Because of this I kept other days minimal and just focused on Christmas morning and present opening.

Christmas Eve church service was really nice.  My parents came with us and the kids looked so cute in their outfits - William with pinstripe vest and pants and a hot pink pocket square, and Hannah with a beautiful dress that she fell in love with at the store.  Unfortunately we decided to go to the 4pm service, and Hannah was so excited to see Memaw and PaPa that she went down late for a nap and woke up with a grumpy overtired attitude.  William ate puffs by the handfuls and was jabbering during the service.  It was far from picturesque, but in other ways it was exactly how church with a 9m old and 3 year old should be.

Christmas Morning was better than I imagined.  Hannah and William slowly made their way through the presents and we were still opening some well after dinnertime.  They spent the whole day playing, laughing, trying to walk, watching Little Mermaid, and playing with Play Doh.  I just had to include a picture of Santa's cookie plate.  Hannah did a great job writing Santa! (She's 39 months)

Speaking of 'trying to walk' William took his first real step on Christmas!
I didn't get it on film, but I captured nearly every failed attempt.  Figures.  Oh well.

And finally - look at my 'little' girl.  She's wearing her Belle earrings which make her look like a teenager.  She's so smart and sweet and beautiful.
